About Marian Verkerk

Marian Verkerk

Marian Verkerk is a Dutch philosopher and emeritus full professor, known for her influential work in care ethics. After a long academic career at the University of Groningen and the University Medical Centre Groningen, she turned her focus to photography, a practice that resonates deeply with her philosophical outlook.

Her photographic work explores still life, landscapes, and experimental approaches, with a particular interest in alternative processes. Inspired by light, texture, and form, she creates images that balance precision with poetic depth. Since beginning her studies at the Fotoacademie in Groningen and Amsterdam in 2008, she has continued to refine her practice under the guidance of various mentors.

Currently, Verkerk works primarily with mixed techniques, blending analog and digital elements. She is especially drawn to Lumen prints and Chemographs, combining traditional experimentation with contemporary tools to create layered, thought-provoking works.

She lives in Friesland with her wife and their small dog, and often spends the winter months in Spain, where the changing light and landscapes continue to inspire her creative process.
